Webtoon Journal Setup

So I’m used to drawing graphic novels and I’ve struggled with the webtoon format. I found using a travelers notebook helped switch my brain over to a slimmer horizontal scrolling format. Also I just haven’t been able to draw digital only, so I just go back and forth now.

I use the spiral notebook for storyboarding and initial sketches. One thing I like about webtoons formatting is I don’t have to worry about word balloon placement as much.

My minimalist set up is

  • Non-photo blue pencil
  • A5 Slim notebook. This is the spiral ring notebook from Midori, but use any notebook you want.
  • HB pencil (or whatever grade you like)
  • Graph ruler and mini template thingie
  • Eraser of some kind
  • .5 mechanical pencil ( or whatever size you like)
  • Micron PN pen (I break pen nibs, but this one is plastic)

The main thing is to choose tools you like and will use.
